Kinkade’s pastels in “Water / Color”

— an exploration of water

May 22 – Aug 14, 2015

Reception Friday, 22 May 2015, 7 – 9 pm

Studio Montclair at Academy Square, 22 Plymouth St, Montclair NJ

curated by Marcie Cooperman, author of “Color: How to Use It”

This exhibit is an exploration of water using color to direct the viewers’ experience of the artwork. Curator Marcie Cooperman states, “With its three elements- hue, value, and intensity-color is a powerful tool for all images, no matter what the medium. It can describe heat, or hazy cloudy skies, or show us watery movements. It can strengthen colors, lead the eye in a certain direction or to a specific focal point, or enhance certain areas of the composition.”

258. Sketch for Changewater pastel 17x34 IMG0087 2

Sketch for Changewater  pastel  17″ x 34″  Collection of Julie Blackman & Mitchell Dinnerstein

Sketch for Changewater  is a preliminary study for a 20’ oil painting commission.

The abstraction represents the flow of water and reflection patterns in the Musconetcong River, in Changewater NJ.

169. Reflections pastel 35.5x3

Reflections  pastel  35.5″ x 30″  Collection of Stephen & Barbara Levinson

This piece contrasts the tension at the top of the water with the adjoining [dry] rocks.  We are near Stokes State Forest [NJ], and the cold of November has set in.  Ice is about to form.
