Smooth and sensuous and without sharp edges, circles are always present in nature and in the objects and world around us. Literally, such as on the wheels of the bus or a perfectly round orange, or the ripples caused by a raindrop; or figuratively, such as in our close circle of friends. For this exhibit Studio Montclair artists are invited to submit 2D art that in some way highlights, incorporates or is informed by circles, spheres, coils, tubes, and other round shapes-either literally or figuratively.
Studio Montclair presents Full Circle, an exhibit in which the member artists explore fresh artistic perspectives about the circle. The show totals 40 pieces, chosen to offer a varied selection of media, subject matter, styles, and rhythms. Collectively, the works chosen for “Full Circle” leave one with an appreciative impression of this basic geometric shape. “They illuminate the notion that the gravity caused by the spinning globe we live on defines the way we see,” Allan Gorman, the curator of “Full Circle” observed. “This shape’s global omnipresence also powerfully influences the belief that what we call ‘life’ fits a circular structure.”
